A peculiar dispute has emerged concerning AC Milan’s acquisition of Andrej Kostic, a transfer potentially worth €8 million, with directors from Partizan Belgrade openly clashing over the terms of the agreement.
AC Milan, known as the Rossoneri, is reportedly making a future-oriented investment, having reached an agreement with the Serbian club for the transfer of striker Kostic. The deal is valued at an initial €3.5 million, with an additional €4.5 million contingent on various add-ons and performance bonuses. Kostic, who celebrated his 19th birthday in January, has already represented Montenegro twice at the senior international level. He is scheduled for a medical examination this week, preceding the signing of his contract.
Partizan Belgrade’s Internal Conflict Over Milan Deal
However, this transfer appears to have caught Partizan Belgrade’s vice president, Pedrag Mijatovic, by surprise, prompting him to issue a strong statement condemning the agreement. Mijatovic declared his unequivocal separation from the decision, addressing both Partizan supporters and the broader sports community.
He asserted that he had not been involved in any consultations about Andrej Kostic’s transfer to Milan and had never even seen the offer from the Italian club. Mijatovic emphasized that had he participated in the decision-making, he would have strongly advised the Board against accepting what he considered an “insultingly low offer.”
He questioned the club’s future operational strategy, specifically regarding the sale of its most promising talents for what he perceived as almost no cost. Mijatovic also pointed out that other Board members were aware of his recent extensive discussions with top-tier European clubs, where he had communicated that Partizan players had substantial release clauses. Mijatovic concluded by expressing his belief that this sale establishes a perilous precedent, one that could significantly devalue Partizan’s players in the transfer market.
In response, other directors at Partizan Belgrade issued their own statement via a newsletter, promising a clear and comprehensive rebuttal to all allegations on Wednesday evening.
This marks the second instance in a matter of weeks where Milan has encountered complications in a transfer deal, following a similar situation with Corinthians over midfielder Andre, where the agreement was subsequently nullified by the Brazilian club’s President.
