NBA champion Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, fresh off earning regular-season and Finals MVP honors, is nominated in multiple categories. The standout Oklahoma City Thunder guard is a candidate for both Best Athlete – Men`s Sports and Best NBA Player. The Thunder team itself is also recognized, listed among the nine nominees for Best Team following their decisive Game 7 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
Several athletes received ESPYS nominations for their exceptional performances at the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Gymnastics legend Simone Biles and track star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are both nominated for Best Athlete – Women`s Sports. Representing other categories are Ilona Maher for Best Breakthrough Athlete and Ezra Frech for Best Athlete with a Disability.
A`ja Wilson, who won Best Athlete – Women`s Sports and Best WNBA Player in 2024, is once again a top nominee in both of these categories. NFL star Saquon Barkley has earned three nominations this year: Best Athlete – Men`s Sports, Best Play, and Best NFL Player. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the only other NFL player alongside Barkley to be nominated for both Best NFL Player and Best Athlete – Men`s Sports.
