Even though she is a prominent figure in Swiss football and contributed to Juventus winning the Serie A title in the 2024-25 season, Alisha Lehmann was initially omitted from some national team selections before the European Championship squad was finalized.
Ultimately, she was included in the squad and will participate in the major tournament hosted in Switzerland this summer. Lehmann expressed her joy, stating that, despite earning 60 caps, her position in the national team has felt uncertain.
Speaking to Blick about being left out or on standby lists sometimes, Lehmann commented: “It certainly hasn`t been an easy situation for me. One moment you`re in, the next you`re not. As a player, you want clarity from the coaches to build confidence.”
Asked if she worried about her spot for the Euros, Lehmann replied: “No, I don`t dwell on such matters. It`s not my decision. However, I was extremely happy to be called up again. I am very proud to be Swiss and want to represent my country.”
Typically a wide forward throughout her career, Lehmann has recently been tried out in a full-back role by the Swiss team. The 26-year-old commented on adapting to this new position: “Yes, I`ve somewhat found my new role. I am pleased to embrace this challenge.”
As the host nation, Switzerland is in Group A for the European Championship this summer. Their opponents are Norway, Iceland, and Finland, with the team aiming to reach at least the quarter-finals.
