Atalanta vs Bayern Munich: Palladino Predicts ‘Magical Night,’ All of Italy Cheering On

Sport news

Coach Raffaele Palladino anticipates a “magical” Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich, asserting that Atalanta is “unwilling to set limits” and has the unwavering support of “all Italians.” The highly anticipated first leg is scheduled for Tuesday at 20:00 GMT (21:00 CET) at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo.

As Italy’s sole remaining Champions League participant, La Dea faces a formidable challenge against German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

“Tomorrow promises to be a magical, extraordinary night for us,” Palladino declared to Sky Sport Italia. “It’s a dream to reach the Champions League last 16 and face one of the world’s strongest teams. Dreams are meant to be lived. We aim to fully embrace this experience, create problems for Bayern, and, playing at home, replicate our strong showing against Borussia Dortmund.”

Atalanta boasts an impressive track record against German adversaries. This includes their triumphant 3-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League Final. Furthermore, in last month’s Champions League play-offs, they overcame a 2-0 first-leg deficit to defeat Borussia Dortmund 4-1 in Bergamo.

“It’s a great feeling to be Italy’s only representative in the Champions League. We sense the support of all Italians, and I’ve received encouragement from many, including my former players at Fiorentina and Monza,” Palladino continued. “We refuse to impose any limits on ourselves. We intend to make our presence felt, fully aware that Bayern Munich is an exceptionally strong team.”

While Bayern faces absences with Manuel Neuer sidelined and uncertainty surrounding Harry Kane’s fitness, Atalanta grapples with multiple key player unavailabilities. Giacomo Raspadori and Charles De Ketelaere are still injured, Giorgio Scalvini is suspended in defense, and Ederson’s participation is highly questionable.

“I would have preferred to approach this match with a full squad available, but particularly in attack, we are hampered by the absences of Raspadori and De Ketelaere,” the coach stated. “Nevertheless, I am confident that whoever takes the field will give their absolute best for this club. Our goal is to conclude the first 90 minutes of this tie knowing we’ve given everything to bring joy to our supporters.”

Bayern Munich showcased their strength in the group stage, winning seven of their eight Champions League matches, with their sole defeat being a 3-1 loss to Arsenal on November 26.

“Bayern possesses few weaknesses, but we have meticulously analyzed them,” Palladino further explained. “They boast immense attacking quality, particularly with Harry Kane, yet we must maintain our distinct identity and never slacken our pace, as intensity is our most significant asset.”

Is this fixture an impossible mission for Atalanta? “Perhaps,” Palladino conceded, “but it remains a wonderful opportunity to confront such a challenge. We want to savor it, and I’m truly impressed by the team’s attitude.”
