Twenty-year-old AC Milan defender Davide Bartesaghi expressed surprise at the significant playing time he’s been given this season, crediting Massimiliano Allegri and his team for his progress.
Despite the summer acquisition of Pervis Estupinan, the promising Bartesaghi has rapidly established himself as a regular starter for the Rossoneri, accumulating close to 2,000 minutes on the field this term. This season, he has contributed two goals and one assist in 26 competitive matches.
Bartesaghi Credits Allegri and Milan for Building His Confidence
Speaking to Gazzetta, Bartesaghi stated, “I’ve been given far more opportunities at Milan than I ever anticipated. I feel fortunate and content, enjoying the full trust of my coach, the staff, and my fellow players.”
He added, “My gratitude goes entirely to Allegri and his team. They’ve instilled confidence in me and assisted me in adjusting to various positions. I’m comfortable in my current role, but envision myself in a three-man defense moving forward. I’ve come to understand that being versatile is a significant asset.”
Bartesaghi, an alumnus of the Milan Academy, noted that Allegri had a very clear vision upon taking the helm as the Rossoneri’s coach last summer. The defender explained, “Our defensive statistics last season were subpar, and the coach immediately tasked us with improving them. His instructions were straightforward: prevent goals and score. He consistently reiterates this message.”
He emphasized, “Consistent daily effort and adherence to the coach’s guidance lead to continuous progress.”
Bartesaghi praised, “Allegri is an outstanding individual and coach. He consistently advises me to remain composed. The staff’s support is immense, and I feel a strong connection with them. I always believed an opportunity would arise for me.”
Bartesaghi then identified the AC Milan teammate who has been most instrumental in his inaugural full season with the senior squad. He singled out, “Gabbia, first and foremost. We spend a great deal of time together and share many experiences.”
He also highlighted other teammates, saying, “On the field, Maignan leads us. Rabiot also offers me a lot of advice, and Modric sets an example through his actions rather than just words.”

Bartesaghi’s initial foray into senior-level football occurred last season, primarily with the Milan Futuro team in Italy’s third division. He confessed, “Without the Milan U23 team [Milan Futuro], I would have been forced to move clubs and cities, making it difficult to settle down before potentially moving again.”
Bartesaghi reflected, “The environment outside is naturally different. Milan Futuro proved challenging initially, but it was an essential stepping stone. The club’s objective is to foster young talent, and that platform allows for it. It’s not Serie A, nor is it merely Primavera; there’s real pressure, and you compete against seasoned teams.”
Although Milan’s second team debuted in the 2024-25 season and was subsequently relegated to Serie D, Bartesaghi firmly stated that he wouldn’t be the player he is today without that experience, emphasizing its critical role in his development.

Looking ahead, Milan is set to face Napoli at the Stadio Maradona in a crucial Serie A fixture. Bartesaghi concluded, “This is undeniably one of the season’s most vital matches, fundamental as we enter the final stages.”
He added, “We are preparing with the utmost focus this game demands. There will be emotion, but also a strong sense of self-awareness. We are a formidable team, capable of competing with any opponent.”
