The 38th National Congress of the Italian Sports Medicine Federation (FMSI) is set to explore the critical relationship between “Biological Age and Chronological Age,” emphasizing the pivotal role of Sports Medicine in promoting a healthy lifespan. Scheduled from March 26 to 28 at the Rome Cavalieri Congress Centre, the event will highlight how Italian Sports Medicine specialists possess the expertise to identify and foster factors that influence biological age, thereby reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases and ensuring healthy longevity.
The FMSI, recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health as the sole scientific society for Sports Medicine in Italy, aims to leverage this extensive knowledge—refined through dedicated work with Olympic athletes—for the benefit of the general population and the national healthcare and socio-economic system. This approach presents an integrated and cost-effective model for chronic disease prevention and prediction, seamlessly blending the unique competencies of Sports Medicine with the latest epigenetic research.
The congress will be formally inaugurated on Thursday, March 26, at 4 PM by Maurizio Casasco, who presides over both the Italian and European Federations of Sports Medicine. The three-day scientific program covers a wide array of crucial themes, including “Human Aging and Motor Activities,” “Update on Neurosciences, Physical Exercise and Sport,” “Women and Movement,” “Nutrition and Sport,” “Milan-Cortina Olympics: Research, Innovation and Performance,” and the highly central topic of “Prescribing Physical Exercise in Cardiology.” The latter will specifically address the guidelines developed by the FMSI in collaboration with leading cardiology scientific societies.
The event also features dedicated sessions for lectures, in-depth discussions, and hot topics, including a symposium on vaccine prevention. With over 80 speakers—prominent figures from scientific, academic, political, and sporting spheres—the congress anticipates an audience of over 3,200 registered medical professionals.
