Cagliari has been dealt another significant blow with news that left-back Riyad Idrissi has sustained a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, sidelining him for an estimated four to six months. The 20-year-old, a product of the Sardinian club’s youth academy, had been a key performer this season, contributing two goals and an assist across 26 competitive appearances.
The diagnosis, confirming a torn ACL in his left knee, comes after tests following a recent Serie A match. Idrissi is scheduled for surgery in the coming days.
This injury adds to a worrying trend for Cagliari, as Idrissi is the third player this season alone to suffer an ACL tear, following in the footsteps of teammates Andrea Belotti and Mattia Felici. The recurring nature of such severe knee injuries presents a significant challenge for the club.
