Claudio Ranieri has officially concluded his tenure with Roma. Italian media outlets are also reporting that sporting director Ricky Massara has stepped down, though this has yet to be officially confirmed by the club.
Roma confirmed Ranieri’s departure from his position as senior advisor on Friday. This decision follows a period of public disagreement with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini in recent weeks.
Over the past two weeks, various reports have pointed to a growing divide within the Roma camp, with Gasperini and Ranieri reportedly no longer communicating at the club’s training facilities. This situation was deemed unsustainable, necessitating action.
Ultimately, the club has opted to support the coach over the advisor. This development is also expected to precipitate the departure of sporting director Massara.
Sources suggest that Massara and Gasperini have never been on the same page. The coach has frequently expressed dissatisfaction with Roma’s performance in the transfer market throughout the current season in numerous interviews and press conferences.
Corriere dello Sport indicates that Massara’s exit from the club is increasingly probable. Meanwhile, reports from Siamolaroma.it claim that Massara submitted his resignation on Friday evening, coinciding with the announcement of Ranieri’s departure.
Siamolaroma further notes that Massara possesses a break clause in his contract with the Giallorossi, which can be exercised annually before June 30th. The report from Friday indicates that Massara would not receive any compensation if he resigns.
