In a cutting-edge gym in London, training takes on a new dimension. Forget dumbbells, barbells, and even human instructors: instead, an advanced artificial intelligence algorithm guides users through dynamic fitness sessions. This innovative solution is called CoachCube, designed to democratize personal training. At approximately £12 per session, it offers a significantly more accessible alternative to traditional personal trainers, especially in a metropolis like London.
How CoachCube Works
The system is simple yet sophisticated. Upon entering a dedicated booth, a camera analyzes the user’s movements during the workout. A large screen clearly displays exercises, repetitions, and sets, while resistance loads are automatically adjusted by the AI based on real-time performance. The algorithm carefully monitors execution and intensity, increasing or decreasing resistance to ensure maximum effectiveness and prevent injuries, reducing weight if it detects difficulty or incorrect form. CoachCube’s co-founder aims to expand this technology first in the UK and then across Europe. The system is powered by Google’s Gemini AI model.
The concept behind CoachCube stems from the belief that traditional personal training, while effective, is often too expensive and inconsistent in quality, and that conventional gyms are not always welcoming to everyone. This vision is supported by statistics indicating that a significant portion of the population does not engage in strength training, despite its proven benefits. Starting with its official opening, CoachCube will also integrate the ability to connect smartwatches and other wearables. This will allow the AI to further personalize the workout, adapting it based on nighttime sleep or daily fatigue levels, thus transforming tiredness from a deterrent into an optimization factor.
Our Experience
We had the opportunity to test CoachCube in a London gym. The experience was notably positive: the real-time feedback on posture proved accurate, and data on errors in squats and lunges were readily available in the app after the session. The artificial intelligence maintained a constant and uninterrupted workout flow. The system’s versatility was emphasized, as it is designed to adapt to any user, from someone over 70 to a post-partum woman, or an 18-year-old looking to build muscle mass. It is a truly dynamic and inclusive system.
The Human Factor: A Limitation?
CoachCube represents a significant leap forward compared to traditional fitness apps or smart mirrors seen at tech expos. However, what is missing is the human dimension. Conversations with a trainer, the sense of community typical of gyms, or the motivation from a workout partner during a tough set are not replicable by AI. CoachCube can be the perfect solution for those seeking an isolated environment and efficient training, away from the noise of the world. But at that point, a question arises: is training well the only goal, or do we seek something else in a gym? For this latter need, artificial intelligence, for now, has no answer.
