Fiorentina coach Paolo Vanoli interpreted Moise Kean’s animated reaction to being substituted during their 2-1 Conference League victory over Rakow as a positive indicator, rather than a disciplinary issue. He stressed that the striker’s visible frustration merely underscored his intense desire to contribute and help his team secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
“I am pleased because he is a vital player,” Vanoli remarked to Sky Sport following the match. “When there’s that kind of anger and eagerness to play, it signifies his wish to remain on the pitch and assist the team. However, as the coach, I must also consider his overall importance and the fact that we still have many crucial matches ahead, including progressing further in this competition.”
Vanoli Reflects on Challenging Game and Team’s Resilience
Vanoli was also frank about Fiorentina’s challenging first half, where the team struggled to find its rhythm on a difficult playing surface. “We aimed to play our game, but the pitch conditions didn’t permit it. We were slow to react to second balls and understand how to seal the qualification,” he admitted.
Nevertheless, the second half presented a vastly different scenario, with the Viola orchestrating a comeback to clinch the win. “This team now possesses a significant strength: they know how to respond to adversity,” Vanoli added.
Regarding Kean’s broader value, Vanoli’s perspective was unequivocal, and his comments clearly resonate for Italy’s national team coach ahead of the World Cup playoffs. “The national team coach understands far better than I do that Moise is an important player who is eager to help both Fiorentina and the national squad. He is a player Italy will undoubtedly need.”
