As a revered figure in both the Premier League and for Tottenham, it`s no surprise that Harry Kane is constantly linked with a return to England while at Bayern Munich. The 32-year-old striker has unresolved objectives back home, notably failing to secure a major trophy with his childhood club and falling short of Alan Shearer`s all-time Premier League goal record. However, having joined a European powerhouse, Kane is likely to be hesitant about leaving his current club, where he`s instrumental in their pursuit of successive Bundesliga titles.
This season, Kane`s scoring prowess rivals the historic rates set by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He has already netted 18 goals for Bayern across all competitions, complemented by three for England. His remarkable average of a goal or assist every 39 minutes will be a challenge to sustain throughout the rest of the campaign.
The England captain`s ambition for more silverware remains strong. He believes there`s no better place to achieve this than with the reigning German champions.
Kane dedicated most of his career to Tottenham, progressing through their academy and establishing himself in the first team under Tim Sherwood, then flourishing significantly under Mauricio Pochettino. He participated in several finals with his former club but ultimately never secured a major trophy in England. Despite his departure, Tottenham reportedly holds a buy-back clause in Kane`s contract, rumoured to activate in January 2026. While this option might exist, the final decision rests with the player, and currently, Bayern Munich is his unequivocal focus.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Kane addressed the prospect of a return: “I’m not sure (if I’ll go back), I’m very happy here in Munich. It’s not something I`m thinking about. It’ll always be `we` (with Spurs) because I spent my whole life there. I’m a fan of them and will always watch them and see how they’re getting on. They will always be a part of my life for sure but as for now, I’m loving it here.”
He further reflected on Tottenham`s journey and shared, “I’ve got a lot of friends there with the players and staff. We know how long we waited and how close we’d come in the past so it was big for everyone – the fans, the club and all involved to have that feeling and get that one over the line. That’s always important and hopefully they can push on and win more.”
For a player of Kane`s caliber, consistent Champions League participation is a must, which poses a potential challenge for Tottenham. Given the intense competition for European spots in the Premier League, a failure by Spurs to qualify for next year`s Champions League would likely negate any immediate return for Kane. The 110-cap international has consistently expressed a fervent desire to win Europe`s most prestigious club competition, a goal that remains unchanged.
He further stated, “Bayern are known around Europe every year as one of the best and one of the favourites to win the Champions League. I wanted to test myself at that level and I’ve loved it on and off the pitch. It feels like my second home now. I’m enjoying every moment of it and hopefully it continues.”
Regarding their current season, he noted, “We’ve got a great chance for all the trophies this year. Whenever you start a season with Bayern, you’re favourites. We haven’t had great cup runs since I’ve been here so we want to try and put that right. Then in the Champions League, it’s still early stages but ultimately it’s about trying to win the competition. And going into the World Cup, you want to be at your best.”
Kane`s consistent reiteration of his ambition for success with Bayern is understandable. However, a decision point will eventually arise. Should he secure the Champions League and another Bundesliga title this season, it would mark a triumphant conclusion to his tenure in Germany. Beyond his immediate goals, a deep-seated desire to “make things right” at Spurs, and perhaps return for a final pursuit of silverware with them, may still linger.
Should such a return materialize, Kane would require merely 48 additional goals to claim the Premier League`s all-time top scorer record. This individual milestone alone could be a powerful incentive to draw him back to his hometown, though other prominent English clubs might also contend for Europe`s most prolific striker.
