Hassane Kamara has clarified his contentious actions during Udinese’s victory against Genoa, while the club strongly denounces the racist insults directed at both Kamara and his teammate Keinan Davis.
Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Davis secured the goals in the 2-0 triumph at Marassi on Friday evening. However, the Serie A encounter was marked by intense friction and escalating tensions towards its conclusion.
In the 84th minute, with the score at 1-0, Kamara was substituted. As he left the field, he made a series of provocative facial expressions towards the Genoa supporters.
This act provoked an angry response from Genoa’s striker Lorenzo Colombo, who subsequently received a booking.
Kamara’s Explanation for the Incident
Kamara addressed the incident today through a statement posted on Instagram:
“For clarification: my gesture of sticking my tongue out at Genoa fans on Friday as I exited the pitch was a direct, lighthearted, and non-violent response to the insults and offensive hand gestures I received. Throughout my 12-year career, I have never initiated provocation, and I certainly won’t start now. Lorenzo Colombo’s anger was understandable, and I appreciate his coach, teammates, and my own for de-escalating the situation. Football should unite people, and that principle must be upheld. Furthermore, to those exploiting this incident to send racist insults via social media: remember that the internet retains such actions, and they will not go unpunished.”
Subsequently, Kamara shared a compilation on his Instagram Stories, revealing the racist abuse he had received, deliberately displaying the usernames of the perpetrators.
Keinan Davis reposted Kamara’s message on his own Instagram Stories, which was then followed by an official statement from Udinese Calcio.
Udinese’s statement read: “Udinese Calcio unequivocally condemns the abhorrent behavior directed at players Keinan Davis and Hassane Kamara, who have been targets of racist abuse on their social media platforms. Such despicable occurrences defy all norms of a civilized society, are utterly unacceptable, and Udinese is committed to tirelessly combating them.”
The unfortunate irony is that these incidents transpired during the very week Lega Serie A was running its ‘Keep Racism Out’ media campaign.
