Inter’s Vicario Pursuit Intensifies After Tudor’s Tottenham Champions League Call

Sport news

Inter’s pursuit of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has reportedly received a significant boost following Igor Tudor’s controversial decision regarding the player during Tottenham’s recent 5-2 Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid. The Nerazzurri are keen on acquiring Vicario next summer.

In the Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, Tudor initially benched Vicario in favor of Antonín Kinský. However, early errors from the 22-year-old forced Vicario’s entry into the game after only 17 minutes, a move that seems to have critical implications for his future at Spurs.

Inter Initiates Discussions for Vicario

Multiple reports indicate that Inter has already commenced negotiations with Vicario’s representatives. The former Empoli and Cagliari goalkeeper is seen as their primary long-term target for the 2026-27 season. Earlier accounts suggested that Inter’s management planned to continue discussions with the goalkeeper’s agents within the current month.

Vicario is reportedly keen on a summer return to Italy, and Tudor’s tactical choices in the Atletico Madrid match appear to have intensified this desire. The Gazzetta newspaper suggests that Vicario had anticipated starting the game at the Wanda Metropolitano, feeling his established position in the squad warranted it.

The Gazzetta also notes that Juventus and Monaco are monitoring Vicario’s situation. Should Inter’s primary pursuit fail, Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin is reportedly their alternative option to succeed Yann Sommer.

Tottenham’s valuation for Vicario is currently estimated at approximately €20 million. However, this price could decrease significantly if Spurs face relegation from the Premier League. Currently, Tottenham finds itself precariously positioned just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, a situation exacerbated by new coach Igor Tudor’s record of four consecutive losses since taking charge.
