Riccardo Calafiori participated in training with the Arsenal squad today, indicating his probable availability for tomorrow’s Champions League encounter against Bayer Leverkusen. This development also delivers welcome news for the Italian national team.
The Italian defender joined Arsenal’s training session on Tuesday, the day before their away Champions League fixture in Germany.
Calafiori Returns to Arsenal Training Following Injury
Reports confirm that the former Bologna defender was observed on the pitch during the Gunners’ final training session on Tuesday, prior to their journey to Germany.
Calafiori had been forced to leave the field during the second half of Arsenal’s FA Cup 5th Round match against Mansfield Town over the weekend due to a reported issue.
Manager Mikel Arteta had previously stated that the Italian was experiencing “minor discomforts” and was “not comfortable continuing” in the game.
His swift return to fitness is particularly timely and beneficial for the Italian national squad. In less than two weeks, the Azzurri are scheduled to face Northern Ireland in their World Cup play-off semifinal in Bergamo.
This critical match is set for March 26, with a potential final on March 31 against the winner of the Wales-Bosnia and Herzegovina tie.
Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta, is anticipated to provide a more comprehensive update on Calafiori’s condition during his pre-match press conference later today.
