Juventus Divided on Future Goalkeeper Targets: Youth vs. Experience

Sport news

Juventus is actively seeking a new goalkeeper for the upcoming seasons, a move that has sparked an internal disagreement between CEO Damien Comolli and manager Luciano Spalletti. According to reports, Comolli favors the acquisition of young talent Guillaume Restes, while Spalletti is inclined towards more seasoned goalkeepers like David de Gea or Emiliano Martinez.

This search comes as current Juventus goalkeepers Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin are expected to move on; Di Gregorio has reportedly not met expectations, and Perin is seeking a starting role elsewhere.

Comolli’s Preference: Young Talent Guillaume Restes

Comolli’s primary target, as reported by Tuttosport, is 21-year-old French goalkeeper Guillaume Restes from Toulouse. Comolli, having previously served as a director and president at the French club, is reportedly well-acquainted with Restes’ qualities. The young keeper has already accumulated 100 senior appearances for Toulouse, having been with the club since age six. His estimated market value is around €20 million.

Spalletti’s Choices: Experienced Keepers and Top Names

Conversely, Spalletti reportedly prefers to allocate the €20 million towards strengthening other areas of the squad, opting for a more experienced goalkeeper at a potentially lower cost or higher proven value. His list of preferred candidates includes David de Gea, Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario, and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. Martinez has reportedly been offered to Juventus, with his potential signing contingent on reasonable wage demands.

Other experienced goalkeepers on Spalletti’s radar include Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi and Liverpool’s Alisson. However, Carnesecchi’s high valuation and impending contract extension make him a difficult target, while Alisson is considered unlikely to depart Liverpool before his contract expires in 2027.
