Inter Milan’s assistant coach, Aleksandar Kolarov, is set to lead the team for the first time in Cristian Chivu’s absence, promising an “aggressive” display against Fiorentina.
The crucial Serie A encounter is scheduled to kick off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi at 19:45 GMT (20:45 CET).
Pressure is mounting on the Nerazzurri following a defeat in the Derby della Madonnina and a controversial 1-1 draw against Atalanta. With rivals Milan and Napoli securing victories this weekend, Inter’s lead could shrink to just five points if they fail to achieve a positive outcome in Florence.
Kolarov Confident as He Steps In for Chivu
Head coach Cristian Chivu is serving a touchline ban, entrusting Kolarov with responsibilities both on the bench and during media engagements.
“It’s true this is my first time on the bench alone, but I feel relaxed, and the squad’s excellent week of training has also reassured me,” Kolarov stated to DAZN Italia. “The team is performing well, and we’re determined to deliver a strong showing. We’ve encountered various challenges throughout the season, including the match against Atalanta, but those are behind us now, and we’re ready to make our statement.”
Due to security concerns, Inter supporters were prohibited from attending the away fixture. Consequently, hundreds gathered at the training ground yesterday to bid farewell to the squad.
Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were unavailable for the trip due to injuries, although Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries are progressing towards full fitness.
“While we haven’t shown our usual sharpness in the last two games, this match presents a significant opportunity for us to rediscover the form we’ve maintained for much of the season. We plan to be very aggressive this evening.”
