SAVANNAH, Ga. — Korn Ferry Tour golfer Ryan McCormick, frustrated with his performance this year, decided to tape his mouth shut during a round on Friday to manage his anger.
The Korn Ferry Tour shared a video showing McCormick with clear tape over his mouth and explaining his peculiar decision.
McCormick explained his unusual method after his round, saying he was feeling angry and frustrated with his game this year. He said he had tried many things to improve, and decided to try taping his mouth shut as a way to stop himself from getting angry.
After starting with a 1-over 73 at the Club Car Championship, he shot a 72 and missed the cut.
McCormick also mentioned that he didn`t want his negativity to affect his playing partners.
He admitted he wasn`t sure if it would help his game, but it did force him to focus on breathing. He compared himself to Bane from Batman, who wears a muzzle. McCormick emphasized that he didn`t want to negatively impact his playing partners or himself, and taping his mouth was his way of coping with a difficult time.
After playing on the PGA Tour in 2024, McCormick is now back on the Korn Ferry Tour. This season, he has only made the cut in half of his six starts and hasn`t finished in the top 40 yet.
McCormick said he felt he was out of ideas to improve his game and had considered taping his mouth shut for a couple of weeks before finally doing it.
