Aston Martin Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll is set to make his return to action at his home race, the Canadian Grand Prix, this weekend. He was forced to withdraw from the previous race in Spain due to injury.
The team had announced on the Saturday evening of the last race weekend, two weeks prior, that Stroll would not compete in Sunday`s Grand Prix despite qualifying 14th. The reason given was pain in his hand and wrist, which required a surgical procedure.
According to the team, the discomfort was linked to a procedure Stroll underwent before the 2023 season, following a wrist injury sustained in a cycling accident.
On Wednesday, Aston Martin confirmed that Stroll was fit and ready to participate in the race weekend in Montreal.
Stroll expressed his eagerness about returning to the cockpit for his home event:
“I am excited to get back behind the wheel with the team for my home Grand Prix this weekend,” Stroll said. “I was always going to fight hard to be ready to race in front of the Montreal crowd. I`m feeling good after my procedure and put some laps in at Paul Ricard this week to prepare.”
In a statement, Aston Martin corroborated his readiness:
“Lance had a successful medical procedure to resolve the symptoms he has been experiencing and completed some laps in an old F1 car at Paul Ricard earlier this week,” the team stated. “Lance is feeling fit and healthy, and is excited to compete in front of his home crowd.”
