Following Lazio’s 2-0 triumph over Bologna, assistant manager Marco Ianni provided an update on Mario Gila’s injury and commended Kenneth Taylor for his instinctive performance on the field.
This victory marked the Aquile’s (Lazio’s nickname) third consecutive win in Serie A, propelling them past Bologna into eighth position in the league standings.
Kenneth Taylor emerged as the match’s standout performer, scoring both goals in the second half. This came after Edoardo Motta, in only his third Serie A appearance, successfully saved a penalty from Riccardo Orsolini.
Lazio Finds Consistency
With head coach Maurizio Sarri serving a touchline ban, assistant Marco Ianni led the team from the bench and addressed the media at the Stadio Dall’Ara.
“Our aim was to build on the momentum of our previous two victories, and we delivered another strong performance against a formidable opponent,” Ianni stated.
“We adopted the correct approach, and I witnessed great character in an energized atmosphere, especially following our Europa League success. Motta’s crucial penalty save provided the pivotal momentum shift we needed to secure the win.”
“Ultimately, I believe we were more effective in capitalizing on the key moments that favored us.”
The match also brought a setback, as Mario Gila left the field in the first half due to a muscular issue, joining an already extensive injury list featuring Mattia Zaccagni, Ivan Provedel, Danilo Cataldi, Toma Basic, Nicolò Rovella, and Samuel Gigot.
The Lazio assistant manager confirmed, “Gila has been dealing with knee discomfort for some time, and we anticipated this possibility. He has been playing through pain for several weeks to help the team.”
“He was determined to contribute, and we hope it’s merely an inflammation, allowing him to return to action immediately after the international break.”
Nevertheless, substitutions, notably Boulaye Dia and Tijjani Noslin, positively influenced the game.
“Indeed, the changes we made affected the outcome. While the starters performed adequately, the incoming players injected fresh energy and added depth to our offensive efforts.”
“Pedro wasn’t at his physical best, yet he still delivered a strong first-half performance.”
Despite Lazio’s restricted transfer activity in January, Taylor has proven to be an excellent acquisition. He was immediately integrated into the starting lineup after joining from Ajax and marked his impact with two goals today.
“Taylor is a superb player who arrived from a very different league, yet he adapted seamlessly,” Ianni added.
“He possesses an innate understanding of the game on the pitch. Off the field, he’s incredibly diligent, diligently studying Italian, and within just two weeks, he had already grasped a significant amount of our language.”
