Reports indicate that Lazio has decided not to offer midfielder Toma Basic a new contract, reversing previous suggestions that a deal until 2030 was imminent. As a result, Basic is now set to leave the club as a free agent on June 30, as Lazio continues efforts to reduce its overall wage bill.
Basic was initially considered one of the players most likely to secure an extension among several whose contracts were expiring at the Stadio Olimpico. Earlier rumors had suggested an agreement was close, potentially extending his stay until June 2030 with a salary of €2.5 million per season. However, the club’s hierarchy reportedly changed its stance, opting to let the 29-year-old’s current deal expire.
Lazio Parts Ways with Basic

A significant factor in this decision may have been an injury Basic sustained in February, which saw him drop out of the squad and lose the momentum he had been building under coach Maurizio Sarri.
Basic joined Lazio in 2021 from Girondins de Bordeaux for a transfer fee of €7.1 million. This season, he has made 17 competitive appearances for the club, contributing one goal and two assists.
