Lewis Hamilton believes his tenure at Ferrari should be evaluated over `several years`, not based on the initial period of his first season with the Italian team.
Hamilton made a high-profile move to Ferrari following a 12-year spell at Mercedes, but the beginning of the 2025 season has been challenging.
Ferrari was anticipated to challenge McLaren for championships, but after only six races, they are significantly behind the current constructors` champions.
While Hamilton has demonstrated moments of strong performance, like a Sprint win in China and a third place in the Miami Sprint, the seven-time champion has generally found it difficult to match his teammate Charles Leclerc`s pace in qualifying and during full races.
When asked if the upcoming trio of races, beginning with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this weekend, would determine Ferrari`s season, Hamilton responded: “I don`t view these three races as the sole determinant.”
“Even if we have three difficult races, our aspirations won`t vanish. I don`t anticipate that happening, but my point is, we don`t base everything on a single event.”
“Personally, I`m not evaluating our success based on a brief period of racing, be it half a season or one season.”
“Let`s assess our achievements at the conclusion of my time here at Ferrari, after several years. That will be the point to look back and determine if we were successful.”
“These initial months are merely building blocks towards our future goals.”
Hamilton `Really Hopeful` Imola Upgrades Will Improve Car
Ferrari, like many other teams, is anticipated to introduce car upgrades at Imola, as the first European race often serves as the debut for new components.
Hamilton is hopeful these updates will help him improve his current seventh position in the drivers` standings, where he trails leader Oscar Piastri by 90 points.
Hamilton stated: “I visited the factory earlier this week and saw the team; I believe everyone is accepting responsibility for our current situation, and we are actively working to implement changes.”
“We have some updates for this weekend that will hopefully make the car better. I`m genuinely optimistic.”
Hamilton`s Mental Approach During Difficult Times
Having been left visibly disappointed by several recent performances, Hamilton explained the mental approach that enables him to keep fighting.
He explained: “Ultimately, it hinges on your self-belief; it`s simply a mindset. I genuinely believe I am far from perfect, and I believe I can improve and exert more effort every day, and if I stumble, I`ll try again.”
“During challenging moments, I use specific techniques. I tend not to pay attention to external noise. There are countless rumours, assumptions, comments, and judgments from people who, in reality, have no idea what`s truly happening, or the journey I`ve taken to reach this point.”
“Another thing I frequently need to remind myself is that I have won seven championships and more races than any other driver in history. I must remember the great achievements I`ve already accomplished.”
“Although things won`t always be smooth, and we are currently in a challenging phase, they will improve if you maintain belief and continue to push and work hard.”
“This team has no shortage of passion or skill. I sincerely believe we will eventually achieve our goals; we just need patience.”
