Manchester United is reportedly preparing a significant player clear-out this summer, aiming to generate approximately £100 million from sales. According to Sky Sports, five key players could be offloaded to achieve this target.
The list of potential departures reportedly includes current squad members Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee, alongside players currently out on loan: Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana.
Furthermore, the club is set to reduce its wage bill with three players – Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia – expected to leave on free transfers.
Should these exits materialize, United would find themselves in a robust financial position, especially if they secure the anticipated Champions League qualification, which would further boost their budget.
Manchester United Targets £100m from Player Sales
While the exact proceeds from these “disappointing players” remain to be seen, Sky Sports indicates an overall target of £100 million. The report details that Barcelona has an option to make Marcus Rashford’s loan permanent for £26 million, though this deal is not yet finalized. Conversely, a £38 million fee from Rasmus Hojlund’s expected permanent move to Napoli is reportedly already factored in.
If Rashford’s transfer to Barcelona proceeds, this would already bring United’s total to £64 million. The club would then aim to sell players like Zirkzee, Ugarte, and Onana for comparable or slightly lower figures to reach their target.
Following a busy previous summer that saw the arrival of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and goalkeeper Senne Lammens, United now need to prioritize strengthening their midfield. These anticipated sales are crucial for bolstering their transfer budget for upcoming acquisitions.
