Manchester United is reportedly on the cusp of finalizing a transfer for Ederson from Atalanta, with a permanent deal valued at approximately €45 million having been agreed upon by both clubs, as reported by Goal.com and Sky Sport Italia. This move signals the end of the Brazilian midfielder’s tenure in Italian football, where he spent four and a half seasons performing impressively for both Salernitana and Atalanta.
Ederson’s contract with Atalanta was set to run until 2027, making this summer the opportune moment for the Bergamo club to capitalize financially on his sale.
United Outmaneuvers Atletico Madrid for Ederson’s Signature
The acquisition represents a significant triumph for Manchester United in a keenly contested transfer race, according to reports from Goal.com. Atletico Madrid had initially been leading the pursuit, having reached an agreement on personal terms with the player. However, they were unable to meet Atalanta’s valuation, which subsequently allowed Manchester United to swiftly advance their own negotiations.
The decisive factor in persuading both Atalanta and Ederson to favor a move to Old Trafford is understood to be Manchester United’s return to the Champions League under manager Michael Carrick.
For Atalanta, this transfer continues their successful strategy of player sales under the Percassi family’s ownership. The reported €45 million fee secured for Ederson marks a substantial profit on the €23 million they paid Salernitana for the midfielder in 2022.
