Marcus Thuram Credits France Goal with Inter Form Boost

Sport news

Marcus Thuram acknowledged that scoring for the French national team provided him with a significant “confidence booster,” which subsequently revitalized his form for Inter Milan. Despite the team’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Como, Thuram remains cautious about declaring the Scudetto secured.

The match at the Stadio Sinigaglia was a dramatic affair, with Como taking a commanding 2-0 lead before halftime thanks to goals from Alex Valle and Nico Paz. However, Inter staged a remarkable comeback, with both Thuram and Denzel Dumfries netting braces to put Inter 4-2 ahead. Although a penalty from Lucas Da Cunha late in the game narrowed the deficit, Inter ultimately secured the crucial win.

Thuram Reaches Double Figures

“It was essential to score just before halftime; it instilled the right spirit in us for the second half,” Thuram told DAZN Italia.

The striker had been experiencing a goal drought, but his recent success on international duty for France, where he found the back of the net after a long spell since 2023, appears to have reignited his scoring prowess.

“A change of scenery was beneficial, but most importantly, scoring for France gave me a confidence boost, and I’ve brought that momentum to Inter. Did I really score 10 goals? I usually reach that milestone a bit earlier in the season, but I’ve finally achieved it!”

With Napoli drawing 1-1 against Parma and Milan suffering a heavy defeat to Udinese, Inter has extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table to nine points with just six rounds remaining. This victory, despite the late scare, is a significant step towards the title.

“The ability to endure hardship and react as a team is a strong indicator of our character, and this is a very important win for us. However, until it is mathematically confirmed, we cannot claim to have achieved anything,” stated Thuram.

Inter is set to face Como again on April 21 in the Coppa Italia semi-final, following a goalless draw in the first leg of their encounter last month.
