Matt Hughes Suffers Finger Injury, Shares Hospital Update

Former UFC Welterweight Champion and Hall of Famer Matt Hughes has experienced a recent injury, reportedly losing the tip of his middle finger.

While the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear, Hughes, known as the “Country Boy,” posted an image from a hospital visit on his Instagram account. He captioned the photo with a lighthearted remark: “Luckily, God’s been real good to me… He left me nine more to work with. 😆”

Hughes is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished fighters in mixed martial arts history. He is a two-time UFC Welterweight Champion and has been inducted into both the UFC Hall of Fame and the NJCAA Hall of Fame. During his tenure in the UFC, Hughes achieved remarkable success, including two separate six-fight winning streaks that saw him defeat all challengers in the welterweight division. He was honored as the eighth inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame in May 2010.

This incident follows a previous serious injury Hughes sustained on June 16, 2017. He was hospitalized with a severe head injury after his truck was struck by a train at a railway crossing near his home in Montgomery County, Illinois. He remained in a medically induced coma for 19 days, recovering from what he described as the “worst brain injury possible,” a severe Grade 3 diffuse axonal brain injury.
