Lecce has officially confirmed that midfielder Medon Berisha’s season has ended prematurely due to a severe injury, which may necessitate surgery for the Albania international.
This news comes as a significant setback for Lecce, often referred to as the Salentini, as they battle to avoid relegation from Serie A, given Berisha’s importance as one of their key talents.
Berisha had already been sidelined since December 12th, having been stretchered off just 11 minutes into a match against Pisa.
Tragically, just as he was nearing his return to play, Berisha sustained a new injury during Saturday’s training session.
Berisha Suffers Fresh Injury Setback
The club’s official statement revealed that diagnostic tests conducted today confirmed a tendon lesion in the rectus femoris muscle of his right leg.
While located in the same leg, this injury is distinct from his previous ailment. Berisha is scheduled to travel to Finland on Wednesday for a specialist consultation with Professor Lempainen.
Surgery is considered a probable course of action for this new issue. The club’s announcement explicitly states that Berisha will not be able to return to competitive play this season.
This season, the 22-year-old midfielder had made only 14 competitive appearances for Lecce, registering two goals and three assists. He also holds four senior caps for the Albanian national team.
