Milan Anxiety Grows as Top Four Race Tightens in Serie A

Sport news

The Serie A chase for the top four is more unpredictable than ever following a recent downturn by Milan. With only six points separating third and sixth place in the league standings, the competition for Champions League qualification has become fiercely contested. Atalanta, in particular, has fallen behind in this critical race.

Even at the midpoint of Serie A’s Week 32, the season is shaping up for an incredibly exciting conclusion.

For a significant period, it was widely assumed that Inter, Milan, and Napoli were engaged in their own title race, while the fourth Champions League spot would be a contest primarily between Juventus, Como, Roma, and Atalanta.

However, a string of consecutive defeats has seen Milan drop out of the top two positions for the first time since Week 11, leading to a palpable increase in tension surrounding their Champions League aspirations.

Milan’s Top Four Confidence Wanes

Juventus secured a crucial 1-0 away victory against Atalanta, effectively distancing ‘La Dea’ from the battle for fourth place. Atalanta now finds itself at least seven points behind the coveted Champions League qualification spot.

Roma also delivered a commanding performance, defeating Pisa 3-0. Regardless of the outcome of Como’s match against league leaders Inter on Sunday, the current standings reveal a mere six-point gap between Milan in third and Roma in sixth.

Should Como manage to upset Inter, Max Allegri’s Juventus would be just two points behind the leaders, with Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli trailing by three points.

The remaining fixtures are poised to deliver a dramatic finale, with several direct confrontations scheduled. These include Roma vs. Atalanta in Week 33, Milan vs. Juventus in Week 34, Como vs. Napoli in Week 35, and Milan vs. Atalanta in Week 36.
