Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic shared a message of respect for Italy following Bosnia’s triumphant World Cup playoff victory, an outcome he called the realization of a lifelong ambition. Despite the jubilation, Muharemovic, who plays his club football in Serie A, expressed genuine affection for Italy, a nation where he has forged his professional career.
Speaking after the intense penalty shootout win, Muharemovic remarked, “My deepest aspiration was to compete in the World Cup representing Bosnia, a dream shared by all of us.” He added, “I hold immense respect for Italy, for my friends and brothers there.”
The Bosnian star also took the opportunity to clarify earlier statements that had been misconstrued. “I sincerely hope my words weren’t taken negatively, as I have many friends and close connections in Italy. My time in Italy has been incredibly fulfilling. My respect has never wavered; I always remember my roots and remain humble. Italy will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Reflecting on the match, Muharemovic praised the Azzurri’s resilience, even after playing a significant portion of the game with ten men due to Bastoni’s red card. “They gave their absolute all, even shorthanded, and it was incredibly challenging to withstand their efforts for 120 minutes. I feel for them.”
However, his pride in Bosnia’s qualification was evident. “Bosnia is making its presence felt again, and this is just the beginning. We have so much more to demonstrate.”
With the World Cup now firmly in sight, Muharemovic’s message was clear and forward-looking: “We are prepared. First, we celebrate this monumental achievement, and then our focus shifts entirely to the World Cup.”
