Federico Chiesa, despite his recent withdrawal from the Italian national squad during the international break, is confirmed to be available for Liverpool’s upcoming FA Cup encounter against Manchester City this Saturday.
Liverpool is set to face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals tomorrow, and Chiesa is expected to be included in the Reds’ lineup.
During a press conference, Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed the Italian winger’s eligibility for the Saturday fixture. Slot stated, “Federico returned from the national team, where he was unable to participate. However, he trained with us today and will do so again tomorrow, making him available for the weekend’s game.”
Chiesa had initially been named in Gennaro Gattuso’s 28-player provisional squad for the World Cup play-off, but he returned to Liverpool prior to any training sessions with the national team.
Insights suggest that his decision to return to his club from the national training camp was not solely based on physical concerns.
Consequently, his availability for Liverpool, barely two weeks after opting out of the Azzurri squad, comes as less of a surprise.
This season, Chiesa has contributed three goals and three assists for Liverpool in 32 appearances across various competitions.
He has not represented the Italian national team since the 2024 European Championships.
