ONE Championship: Marie McManamon Suffers Defeat as Jonathan Di Bella Gets Revenge

At ONE Fight Night 36, British fighter Marie McManamon faced a unanimous decision loss to newcomer Selina Flores. The event also saw Jonathan Di Bella achieve a significant redemption victory, and celebrated fighter Aung La N Sang conclude his illustrious career on a high note.

Flores Triumphs Over McManamon

The bout, held at Bangkok`s Lumpinee Stadium, saw former UK No. 1 McManamon challenge Flores. However, San Diego`s Selina Flores marked her ONE Championship debut with a decisive unanimous decision win. Flores, a seasoned fighter with a WBC world title at 122lbs and multiple WBC Muay Thai World Championships, showcased her prowess effectively in her inaugural 115lbs bout.

‘The Celtic Queen’ McManamon succumbed to Flores` superior performance, extending the American`s impressive winning streak to five and improving her career record to 9-1. Despite McManamon`s consistent ring control and aggressive forward pressure, she found it difficult to pin down the agile Flores. Flores skillfully countered from a defensive stance, proving to be a challenging opponent.

Although McManamon rallied in the final round, it wasn`t enough to secure the win, leading to Flores` unanimous decision victory. This defeat marks McManamon`s second consecutive loss in ONE Championship, both against formidable opponents.

Di Bella Claims Unified Kickboxing World Championship

In the highly anticipated main event, Jonathan Di Bella achieved his quest for redemption against two-sport sensation P.K. Saenchai, clinching the unified ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship via unanimous decision.

Aung La N Sang’s Triumphant Farewell

The co-main event saw legendary two-division ONE World Champion Aung La N Sang bring his illustrious MMA career to a triumphant close. Myanmar`s pioneering World Champion dominated former welterweight king Zebaztian Kadestam in their middleweight MMA showdown.

The 40-year-old icon delivered a relentless performance, overwhelming Kadestam until the referee halted the fight at 2:20 in the second round. This victory, his 31st career win, sent the Lumpinee Stadium crowd into a frenzy, marking a fitting end for one of the promotion`s most cherished fighters. Known as ‘The Burmese Python’, Aung La N Sang is set to be inducted into the ONE Championship Hall of Fame this November during ONE 173 in Tokyo.

Flyweight Muay Thai Division Shakeup

The Flyweight Muay Thai division witnessed a dramatic shakeup. In a surprising upset, fifth-ranked Jaosuayai Sor Dechapan suffered a first-round knockout loss to Akif Guluzada, who landed a devastating knee to the head. The division`s shifts continued with Uzbek fighter Aslamjon Ortiko securing a knockdown en route to a dominant win over Kongthoranee Sor Sommai.

These results have significantly opened up the top of the division, adding considerable anticipation to the forthcoming vacant title bout between Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Nong-O Hama at ONE 172.
