MMA news

Orlando Wiet, a revered figure in the world of combat sports, known for his championships in multiple kickboxing and Muay Thai organizations, and a true pioneer in mixed martial arts who competed at UFC 2 in 1994, has sadly passed away at the age of 60.

The fighter, originally from Paramaribo, Suriname, and competing out of France, died on Thursday, as confirmed by his coach, Milton Felter. Although the specific cause of his death has not been publicly revealed, social media posts suggested Wiet had been hospitalized in February.

At UFC 2, Wiet made a memorable appearance, securing a technical knockout victory against Robert Lucarelli with impactful knees to the head. He continued to fight later that same event, where he was defeated by ground elbows from Remco Pardoel.
