Palermo is in mourning following the death of Giovanni Ferrara, the club’s former president, who passed away overnight at the age of 75 due to a sudden illness. Ferrara was an entrepreneur who became the president of Palermo FC in 1988, just two years after the club’s dissolution in 1986 had cast it into uncertainty.
He served in the role until 2000, playing a crucial part in the Rosanero’s resurgence. During his tenure, Palermo navigated between Serie B and Serie C1, but fans fondly remember the triumph in the Coppa Italia Serie C in 1993, as well as the era of the ‘Palermo dei picciotti’ (Palermo of the youngsters).
Both Palermo FC and Mayor Lagalla have expressed their profound condolences, joining the family and the entire community in their grief.
