Parma’s CEO, Federico Cherubini, offered no excuses for his team following their disappointing 0-2 home loss to Cremonese, explicitly agreeing that the fans’ boos at the final whistle were completely warranted.
This defeat severely impacts Parma, making their bid to escape the relegation zone appear much more challenging with just eight matches left, especially as Cremonese secured a crucial three points.
This loss marks their second consecutive defeat, erasing a recent spell of promising results that had briefly boosted morale for Carlos Cuesta’s squad. Cherubini made it clear he wouldn’t downplay the gravity of the situation.
Cherubini: ‘The boos were deserved’
“The boos were deserved, and there’s no room for debate; it accurately reflects the situation,” he stated in an interview.
“It’s perfectly normal for fans to react this way to a performance like ours today. We need to stay united during this time and acknowledge that our objective, which we believed was within reach, remains quite distant.”
Cherubini had previously issued a similar warning ahead of their match against Torino, and his message now resonates with even greater urgency.
“I don’t believe it was a lack of concentration, but rather a very poor overall performance, which makes our goal incredibly hard to achieve,” he commented.
Despite the bleak outlook, the CEO did point to one potential positive: the upcoming international break. He believes this pause offers a timely opportunity for the team, which is clearly in need of regrouping. “The break arrives at an opportune moment for us to recompose the team,” he concluded.
