Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has publicly addressed the ongoing speculation regarding midfielder Rodri’s future, following the player’s recent comments about being open to a move to Real Madrid. While expressing his desire for Rodri to remain at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola also conveyed a firm message: an unhappy player should seek an exit. He affirmed that he wouldn’t fault Rodri for considering other options but reiterated that if the player feels unsettled, leaving would be the necessary step, encouraging him to discuss such matters with the club’s sporting director.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided further insight into the situation, confirming that Rodri faces a pivotal decision point. Manchester City has proactively offered the 29-year-old a new, financially significant contract, underlining their strong intention to keep him. Concurrently, Real Madrid has demonstrated appreciation for the Spanish international, though official club-to-club negotiations or a formal bid have not yet transpired. Romano noted Rodri’s strong statements regarding a potential Real Madrid switch, suggesting the player is indeed evaluating his career path.
Rodri’s options currently include committing to Manchester City by signing the proposed new contract, continuing for another year without an extension, or pursuing a transfer to the Santiago Bernabéu. Given Rodri’s crucial role in City’s squad over the years, his departure would be a significant blow, especially considering the prior exit of Kevin De Bruyne and the impending contract expirations of Bernardo Silva and John Stones at the close of the current campaign. Manchester City is clearly intent on avoiding another key player loss this summer.
