It has been officially confirmed that Portugal will make a return to the Formula 1 calendar, securing spots for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
The Algarve International Circuit in Portimão previously hosted Grand Prix events in 2020 and 2021. These races were added to the schedule at the time to help restructure the sport`s calendar following disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The inclusion of the Portuguese Grand Prix is set to serve as the replacement for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, which is scheduled to conclude its current run on the F1 calendar after the 2026 season.
The Portimão Track: A Technical Challenge
The Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, measuring 4.6 kilometers, is highly regarded among drivers for the technical challenge it presents. The track is notable for its dramatic elevation changes, culminating in a steep plunge right down to the final right-hand corner before the pit straight.
Rich F1 Heritage
Portugal maintains a proud and lengthy association with Formula 1, stretching back 75 years. The nation first hosted a Grand Prix in Porto in 1958, and later organized race weekends at other historic venues, including Monsanto and Estoril.
