Pressure Mounts on Gasperini with Roma Trio Expected to Split

Sport news

Italian media reports indicate that AS Roma’s coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, is facing intense scrutiny. It is anticipated that either Gasperini himself, Sporting Director Frederic Massara, or advisor Claudio Ranieri will leave the club by the end of the current season. This development follows Roma’s exit from the Europa League against Bologna and their recent underwhelming performance in Serie A, which are expected to lead to significant changes for the upcoming campaign.

Gasperini’s Position at Roma Under Review

According to reports from Corriere della Sera and Il Messaggero, Coach Gasperini held a meeting on Friday with Vice-President Ryan Friedkin, Sporting Director Massara, and advisor Claudio Ranieri. Discussions during this session covered various critical points, including the team’s overall competitiveness and the coach’s leadership style.

It is widely known that Gasperini has expressed dissatisfaction with Massara’s transfer market decisions, with Ranieri reportedly attempting to mediate the strained relationship between the two over recent months.

Despite an initially promising start to the season, Roma has suffered 14 defeats across all competitions. They have been eliminated from the Europa League and currently occupy 6th place in the league standings, trailing fourth-placed Como by three points.

Sources indicate that AS Roma is planning significant changes for the 2026-27 season, with the departure of either Gasperini, Massara, or Ranieri expected at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Meanwhile, the team remains focused on securing a Champions League qualification spot. This objective is crucial for the club, as failure to qualify for Europe’s premier competition would result in a significant loss of revenue, potentially necessitating the sale of at least two key players to address financial constraints.
