Bologna prosecutors have formally requested the dismissal of the investigation against Luca Vildoza, the Argentine point guard for Virtus Bologna, and his wife, Milika Tasic. The couple had been accused of assault following an incident on the evening of October 15, which reportedly involved an operator from a Red Cross ambulance.
This request for dismissal follows the notification, over a month ago, of the investigation’s conclusion. This phase allowed the defense lawyers, Giulia Maria Bellipario and Mattia Grassani, to submit their arguments and present relevant documents. Attorney Grassani expressed strong confidence in the legal process, stating, “We have always trusted the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s work. This is a very important step towards establishing the truth, which can only be one: the complete non-involvement of the Vildoza couple in any alleged wrongdoing. We await the detailed dismissal request from the magistrate and will then evaluate our next steps.”
The Incident
The events in question took place on the evening after an Euroleague game between Virtus and Monaco. A confrontation allegedly erupted between the Vildozas and ambulance personnel who had arrived in the vicinity. The health worker subsequently filed a complaint, leading to the couple’s arrest, though they were released shortly thereafter. The Prosecutor’s Office initially decided not to proceed with a summary trial.
On January 13, the preliminary investigation judge (GIP) did not validate the arrest, arguing that the conditions for immediate or near-immediate apprehension (flagrancy) were not present. The judge also emphasized the lack of immediate objective evidence at the time of the events to support the victim’s account. Now, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has made its formal request for the case to be dismissed.
Grassani further clarified that the dismissal request has already been served to the aggrieved party, the Red Cross operator. The operator now has a 30-day window to potentially object to the prosecutor’s request. The document detailing the dismissal is reportedly comprehensive, outlining the reasons why, according to the prosecution, the initial serious accusation cannot be confirmed and why there is insufficient evidence to send the two individuals to trial.
