Sandro Tonali’s Future: Can Serie A Clubs Afford the Newcastle Star?

Sport news

Juventus has been linked with Sandro Tonali, the Italian international currently playing for Newcastle. However, his anticipated transfer fee this summer is expected to be a significant barrier for any Serie A club hoping to acquire the former AC Milan midfielder.

Tonali is widely recognized as one of Europe’s top central midfielders. His impressive performances for the Italian national team have further solidified his reputation as a key player for the Azzurri.

Despite calls from former Juventus and Italy legends for the Bianconeri to sign the 25-year-old talent from Lodi, the fierce competition, particularly on the financial front, poses a formidable challenge for Juventus to secure the Italian star.

With Newcastle United unlikely to secure a spot in European competitions this season, and numerous top clubs expressing interest in the former AC Milan midfielder for next summer, a transfer appears increasingly probable.

Tonali’s agent, Beppe Riso, plans to discuss his client’s future with Newcastle this month. Riso had previously stated, “We will evaluate in March whether Newcastle are open to anything, but right now he is playing in the Champions League, it is not the right moment to talk about it.”

The former AC Milan star has contributed three goals and seven assists in 47 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle this season.

Italian reports suggest that Newcastle will set a transfer fee of at least €90 million for Tonali next summer, a sum that would make it extremely difficult for Juventus to compete with financially stronger Premier League clubs.

Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City are reportedly interested in the Italian international, who moved to the Magpies from Milan in the summer of 2023 for a fee exceeding €70 million.

Irrespective of what the future holds for Tonali beyond this summer, the Italian midfielder has undoubtedly forged a deep connection with Newcastle and its supporters.

Tonali recently conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the Magpies’ fanbase, particularly for their unwavering support during his betting ban in 2024.

“It transcends football; it’s about daily life,” Tonali stated. “Too frequently, we judge individuals without truly knowing them, causing them pain.”

“The boundary between right and wrong is extremely fine, but Newcastle fans never cross it. They observe, they comprehend, and they reflect; they do not pass judgment. Their conduct has taught me not to judge. Everyone is capable of making mistakes, but that does not grant everyone the right to judge. I will forever attribute this understanding to Newcastle fans. My current perspective is a direct result of how they treated me.”

“It is uncommon for such a strong bond to form between a player and fans when one has, in essence, ‘done nothing’ extraordinary. I simply play football. Many individuals play football, and many play it well, but not everyone experiences this profound connection with their supporters. I was, and continue to be, astonished by the affection I receive.”
