Sport news

Several Serie A clubs, including prominent teams like Juventus and Lazio, have extended their deepest condolences to former coach Igor Tudor, who is currently with Tottenham Hotspur. These messages follow the recent passing of his father.

The 47-year-old Croatian boasts a profound and long-standing connection with Italian football, having dedicated a significant portion of his career there as both a player and a coach. Consequently, he regards Italy as his second home.

Following Tottenham’s 3-0 Premier League home defeat to Nottingham Forest last night, Tudor did not hold his usual media address, officially citing a family matter. It was later confirmed that he had received the tragic news of his father Marco’s death.

Tudor commenced the current season as Juventus’s head coach until his departure on October 27, 2025. He subsequently took on his present role at Tottenham on February 14, 2026. Juventus was notably among the first clubs to issue a statement of condolence this afternoon.

Their heartfelt message read: “Juventus stands with Igor Tudor and his family at this difficult time. Juventus joins in mourning the passing of his father.”

Tudor’s extensive history with Juventus dates back to his playing days from 1998 to 2007. He later returned to the club as Andrea Pirlo’s assistant manager during the 2020-21 campaign. Furthermore, he served a period as head coach in March 2025, receiving a longer contract that summer, only to be dismissed in October 2025 after 24 games in charge.

S.S. Lazio also conveyed their profound sympathy, a club where Tudor held the coaching reins from March to June 2024, succeeding Maurizio Sarri.

The Biancocelesti’s statement read: “S.S. Lazio express their profound condolences to ex-Biancocelesti coach Igor Tudor for the passing of his father.”

His coaching career in Italy further encompasses two separate spells as coach of Udinese from 2018 to 2019, and a season with Hellas Verona in 2021-22.
