The Lega Serie A recently convened to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive new code of ethics. This proposed code aims to introduce strict regulations, potentially including direct fines for infractions such as simulation on the pitch and offensive remarks made by individuals associated with the league.
During the international break, representatives from all twenty Serie A clubs gathered in Milan to deliberate on various pressing issues. President Ezio Simonelli formally announced the initiation of this new code of ethics, which will extend its reach to all players, coaches, directors, and club staff members.
Key Aspects of the Proposed Code
While still in its preliminary planning stages, the new framework is expected to outline specific penalties for different violations, rather than solely deferring all disciplinary actions to existing commissions. A primary focus of the code will be to combat on-field simulation, a concern highlighted by recent incidents like the Alessandro Bastoni controversy during the Inter vs. Juventus match, which previously led to Pierre Kalulu’s sending off. Additionally, the code will target insulting or damaging statements made during post-match interviews or other public appearances.
To effectively enforce these new regulations, there is a possibility of establishing a new, independent body dedicated to imposing fines. This new entity would operate in conjunction with the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) and the current disciplinary commission.
