Silvio Baldini Appointed Interim Coach for Italy’s June Matches

Sport news

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially confirmed that Silvio Baldini, the current coach of the Italy U21 team, will take the helm of the senior national squad for two friendly matches in June. These games are scheduled against Greece and Luxembourg.

Baldini’s interim appointment became necessary following the resignations of both head coach Gennaro Gattuso and FIGC President Gabriele Gravina following Italy’s World Cup play-off elimination. The election of a new FIGC President is slated for June 22, after which a permanent head coach for the Azzurri will be selected.

With the national team’s next fixtures occurring on June 3 and June 7, the FIGC opted to appoint the U21 boss, Baldini, as the caretaker manager to lead the team for these upcoming friendlies.

The first match will see the Azzurri travel to Luxembourg to play at the Stade de Luxembourg on June 3. Four days later, on June 7, Italy will face Greece away at the Pankritio Stadium in Candia.

The Italian national team is set to resume competitive play in September 2026 with Nations League fixtures. Italy has been drawn into Group 1 of the Nations League, competing against France, Belgium, and Turkey.
