Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll has withdrawn from Sunday`s Spanish Grand Prix. He is experiencing pain in his hand and wrist that requires surgery.
The pain is believed to be connected to a procedure Stroll underwent in 2023 following a cycling accident. Stroll had qualified in 14th position for the race.
Aston Martin confirmed that Stroll`s medical consultant advised him not to race.
The team statement read: “Over the course of the past six weeks Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is in relation to the procedure he underwent in 2023. As a result his medical team have confirmed that he will not race tomorrow and he will undergo a procedure to rectify these issues before focusing on his recovery.”
Lance Stroll will not be replaced, meaning only 19 drivers will start the Spanish Grand Prix.
Details on the 2023 Cycling Accident
Stroll previously spoke about the incident that led to his 2023 surgery: “It was an unfortunate accident – I fell from my bike when my tyre caught a hole in the ground – but thankfully the damage was not significant and a successful minor surgery on my right wrist fixed the problem very quickly.”

In a separate matter, Stroll was under investigation after qualifying in Spain for not adhering to the post-session weighing procedure. He reportedly delayed going to the scales for five minutes after entering the garage and did not use the required pit lane exit. The FIA did not issue a decision on this incident.
