Udinese 0-0 Como: Goalless Stalemate Ends Como’s Winning Run, Frustrating Fabregas

Sport news

Como’s impressive five-match winning streak in Serie A came to a halt as they were held to a goalless draw by Udinese at the Stadio Friuli. The result proved frustrating for Como manager Cesc Fabregas, as his side missed an opportunity to solidify their fourth-place position following Roma’s recent defeat to Inter.

Both teams faced significant absences for this Matchday 31 encounter on April 6, 2026. Como were without Jesus Rodriguez, Jacobo Ramon, and long-term absentee Jayden Addai. Udinese similarly missed their top scorer Keinan Davis due to suspension, alongside injured players Adam Buksa, Jordan Zemura, and Alessandro Zanoli. A curious point of observation was that only one Italian player featured in the combined starting twenty-two players across both squads.

The match saw early chances for both sides. Udinese’s Arthur Atta broke through the offside trap to test Como goalkeeper Jean Butez with a stinging shot. Moments later, Como’s Diego Carlos made a crucial tackle to prevent Atta from going clear after a through ball from Nicolò Zaniolo. Lucas Da Cunha also tested Udinese’s Maduka Okoye at the near post, showcasing the attacking intent from Como.

As the game progressed, Como’s defense remained resilient, with Diego Carlos notably throwing himself in the way of a ferocious strike from Jesper Karlstrom from the edge of the area. Okoye in the Udinese goal took the sting out of a Tasos Douvikas angled drive. Later in the half, weak attempts from Christian Kabasele and Douvikas were easily gathered by the respective goalkeepers, while Sergi Roberto couldn’t keep his header down from a promising position.

In the second half, Udinese substitute Idrissa Gueye forced a tougher save out of Butez with a powerful finish at the near post. Marc-Oliver Kempf made a decisive block to deflect a Zaniolo strike over the bar from just ten yards out. Como had a golden opportunity to snatch a late winner in the 87th minute when Mergim Vojvoda ran onto a long ball from Butez, but he lamentably over-hit his lob, sending it sailing over the crossbar.

Late substitute Alvaro Morata, coming off the bench for Como, made an impact by getting two opponents booked, but was ultimately unable to test Udinese’s goalkeeper Okoye as the match concluded in a frustrating goalless draw for both sides.
