What Happened?
Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres has had two highly successful seasons in Portugal, finding the net 97 times in just 102 appearances. Interest in acquiring his services has grown significantly, leading to expectations of a major transfer deal potentially happening in the summer of 2025.
The Bigger Picture
However, Sporting CP is currently playing tough. Despite claims from Gyokeres` agent about an informal gentleman`s agreement allowing his client to leave for a fee less than his £84 million ($114m) release clause, no such arrangement has been finalized. The Lisbon-based club is refusing to yield to external pressure to lower their demands.
Pushing for a Move
According to reports from *Record*, Gyokeres himself is actively trying to force a transfer. He is said to have communicated to Sporting president Federico Varandas that he has no intention of participating in the club`s pre-season training, which is scheduled to commence next week.
Striker`s Stance
The 27-year-old striker has reportedly stated he will not play another match for Sporting and is determined to secure a move to Arsenal “at any cost”. Gyokeres conveyed that he would “never forgive” the club`s management if they blocked his opportunity to play in the Premier League at this stage of his career.
Negotiation Status
Sporting is reportedly asking for €70 million (£60m/$81m) for Gyokeres, potentially structured as a package including performance-related bonuses. In contrast, Arsenal`s most recent offer is said to be lower, around €50 million (£43m/$58m), with an additional €10 million available in add-ons.
