Who Will Be the Top Scorer in Serie A 2025-26?

Sport news

The Serie A season continues to deliver immense excitement, with fierce competition across the league, from the Scudetto race to the fight for survival. Amidst this, several talented players are vying for the prestigious Capocannoniere crown for the 2025-26 campaign.

Inter’s star striker, Lautaro Martinez, currently leads the Serie A goal-scoring charts after 30 rounds, having found the net 14 times this season. While he is widely regarded as the favorite for this term’s top scorer award, Serie A is renowned for its unpredictable nature, suggesting potential shifts in the final matches.

Among the surprising entries in the scoring race, Como’s Anastasios Douvikas sits in an impressive second place with 11 goals. Udinese’s Keinan Davis, currently third in the standings, was also not widely tipped to be so high at this point in the campaign. The former Aston Villa forward, acquired by Udinese for just €3 million in 2023, has scored 10 goals, matching the tallies of Rasmus Hojlund (Napoli), Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), and Nico Paz (Como).

Hojlund made his return to Serie A last summer from Manchester United, having previously spent a season with Atalanta. Although technically on loan from the Red Devils, Napoli has already committed to making his transfer permanent.

Napoli director Giovanni Manna stated in December, “We spared no effort to secure him. Despite interest from more established clubs, his strong desire to join us was crucial, and we are immensely proud.” Manna emphasized, “We had complete confidence. Rasmus makes a significant impact with his goal contributions and his adherence to the coach’s tactical instructions. This sets him apart. There’s an option to buy, which becomes an obligation if we qualify for the Champions League. The player sees himself as a Napoli player, and so do we. This is incredibly important.” Manna further clarified that Hojlund’s permanent move to the Stadio Maradona was merely a “formality,” ensuring the Danish international will continue to wear the Azzurri jersey in the 2026-27 campaign.

The leading Italian goalscorers in Serie A after Round 30 are Gianluca Scamacca of Atalanta and Moise Kean from Fiorentina. Kean was the league’s second-highest scorer last season, behind Mateo Retegui, who has since departed Italy’s top flight for a lucrative transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah last summer.

With eight games remaining, the battle for the Capocannoniere award in Serie A remains intensely competitive. Lautaro Martinez, despite currently being sidelined with an injury, is still considered the frontrunner. The Argentine World Cup winner from 2022 was previously crowned Serie A’s top scorer in the 2023-24 season, contributing 24 goals to Inter’s 20th domestic title.
