Wimbledon Expert Predictions: Who Will Win?

Sport news

Wimbledon is set to commence on Monday, with two-time reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz widely seen as the clear favorite on the men`s side. Other top contenders include Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.

The women`s tournament, however, feels considerably more unpredictable. Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Iga Swiatek are all potential candidates to lift their first Wimbledon trophy, and the field is wide open for others as well.

To get a sense of who might come out on top, we surveyed our panel of experts for their predictions and top betting recommendations.

Who do you predict will win the women`s singles title, and why?

Pam Shriver:

In recent years, Wimbledon has seen numerous surprising champions on the women`s side, and I anticipate this trend will continue in 2025. Compared to the men`s draw, it`s far more challenging to confidently pick who will be holding the Venus Rosewater Dish on July 12. When it`s this unpredictable, leaning towards a favorite like Sabalenka seems like the most sensible approach.

It`s notable that Sabalenka has missed two of the last three Wimbledons – last year due to a shoulder injury and in 2022 because of Wimbledon`s ban on Russian players following the invasion of Ukraine. It will also be interesting to see if her loss to Gauff in the recent Roland Garros final has any lingering effect. Despite these uncertainties, I don`t feel confident enough to pick anyone else.

D`Arcy Maine:

This is a tough one, as there`s no clear frontrunner entering the tournament. Gauff and Sabalenka have demonstrated consistently strong play throughout the season, and both are certainly capable of winning their inaugural Wimbledon title this fortnight. However, despite a challenging draw and a relatively modest record at this specific event (by her high standards), I`m going with Swiatek. I realize this might sound slightly counterintuitive. Yet, Swiatek, seeded No. 8, is approaching this major with less fanfare than in previous years and is free from the intense pressure she often faces elsewhere. Furthermore, her grass-court game seems to be at its peak.

Last week at Bad Homburg, her only grass event leading up to Wimbledon, she reached her first-ever final on the surface and made her first tour final in over a year. Throughout the week, she effectively overcame top-20 opponents like Jasmine Paolini and Ekaterina Alexandrova, and didn`t drop a set until the final against Jessica Pegula (another player I seriously considered picking). Swiatek has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and could potentially face former champion Elena Rybakina in the fourth round, followed likely by Gauff in the quarters. However, this feels like a prime opportunity for Swiatek to re-establish her momentum and status among the world`s best players.

Connelly:

I like the Swiatek pick, and I agree that she has looked as good on grass this week as she has in a long time, possibly ever. But when in doubt, I`ll stick with the World No. 1. Sabalenka has lost four of her last six finals and faces a challenging early draw that will require her to find her best form quickly. This is certainly achievable, but she hasn`t won here yet, which leaves room for someone else to potentially win their first Wimbledon, or perhaps even their first Grand Slam title.

Sabalenka is incredibly consistent at this point, having reached seven finals this year alone. While the Wimbledon title has eluded her so far, she has made the semifinals in her last two appearances. She is undoubtedly capable of winning.

Simon Cambers:

This event is wide open. Sabalenka rightfully deserves to be the favorite, but she has a tough initial draw and will likely need a few matches to hit top form. That`s certainly possible, but the fact remains she hasn`t won here yet, creating a chance for someone else to breakthrough, either for their first Wimbledon or even their first major title.

Rybakina, one of the few former champions in the field, will be dangerous if she can navigate past Swiatek, and Gauff is also a strong contender. However, I predict Madison Keys will have another significant run. Her Australian Open victory seemed to alleviate a lot of pressure, and her game is well-suited for grass, featuring a powerful serve and potent groundstrokes. She`s in the same quarter as Sabalenka, but I can see her going all the way again.

Carlos Alcaraz celebrating on grass court
Carlos Alcaraz is the two-time defending champion at Wimbledon and recently secured his second Queen`s Club title.

Who do you predict will win the men`s singles title, and why?

Pam Shriver:

On the men`s side, Alcaraz is the favorite to achieve a Wimbledon hat-trick. His exceptional athleticism, particularly his remarkable movement on grass, combined with his power, refined touch, and an improved serve, have quickly established him as a formidable young grass-court player at just 22. I anticipate seeing the charismatic Spaniard hit numerous impossible winners on the dead run and then cup his hand to his ear to encourage an even louder reaction from the crowd. If Alcaraz serves as effectively as he did during his Queen`s Club victory, he is poised to win his third consecutive Wimbledon title.

D`Arcy Maine:

Part of me wants to pick Djokovic, and I`ve spent time typing out and then deleting various explanations for how and why he could achieve it. The history! His love for the tournament! His prowess on grass! He has so much motivation and every reason in the world to want to win!

But regrettably, even I haven`t fully convinced myself he can overcome Alcaraz should they meet again in the final. Having witnessed Alcaraz`s performance over the last two years at the All England Club, coupled with his epic final against Sinner at the French Open and his recent Queen`s Club title, I simply cannot pick against him. Ultimately, I believe the 22-year-old Spaniard will secure his sixth major title and third consecutive Wimbledon trophy by the end of the fortnight, further cementing his status as the game`s current best player.

Connelly:

Sinner is rapidly closing the gap on Alcaraz on natural surfaces, and while grass is statistically his weakest surface, he still reached the semifinals here in 2023, even before his significant breakthrough in 2024. However, I find it hard to overlook how much more favorable Alcaraz`s draw is. Sinner will likely have some matches to find his rhythm, but potentially facing former semifinalist Denis Shapovalov in the third round, then possibly Grigor Dimitrov or Tommy Paul in the fourth, and Lorenzo Musetti or Ben Shelton in the quarters presents a real possibility for an upset. And this is all before a potential semifinal clash with Djokovic.

If we get another Sinner-Alcaraz final, I`d be strongly tempted to pick Sinner. But Alcaraz simply has a higher probability of reaching that final.

Simon Cambers:

I can`t pick anyone other than Alcaraz. He has won the title in each of the past two years, and achieving a third straight would be something John McEnroe and Boris Becker never managed, which is quite remarkable. His current form is excellent; he got the necessary matches on grass at Queen`s and won the title, and he should be sufficiently rested and ready to make another strong run. Sinner has to overcome the emotional impact of his Paris loss, Djokovic needs to defeat several top players to win, and while Jack Draper has the potential to win Wimbledon, perhaps this year is still too early for him.

Jessica Pegula holding trophy on grass court
Jessica Pegula defeated Iga Swiatek to win the Bad Homburg Open title on Saturday.

Betting Tips

Odds provided at the time of publication.

Who is your women`s pick to win?

Pamela Maldonado:

Sabalenka +240. While she`s a favorite, her draw isn`t without challenges. However, if Sabalenka serves effectively and maintains her composure, she possesses the power to dominate her section. The key hurdle is surviving the potential trap in Round 3. If she gets past Marketa Vondrousova, her confidence could build significantly all the way to the final.

Andre Snellings:

Any American (+275). Gauff (+750) has the fourth-best odds and is fresh off winning her second career Grand Slam title at this year`s French Open. Keys (+1200) has the fifth-best odds, holds an 11-1 record in majors this season including her Australian Open win, and boasts the best grass-court record among active players (50-18). Pegula (+2000) reached the final of last year`s US Open, is a solid grass-court player (12-6 record, 66.7% win percentage since 2023), and just defeated Swiatek to win the grass-court Bad Homburg Open. And four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka is always a wildcard who fits the profile of some of the unexpected Wimbledon champions seen in recent years.

Who is your men`s pick to win?

Pamela Maldonado:

Alcaraz +120. Alcaraz has a highly favorable draw leading up to the final. No opponent in his path possesses the foot speed, mental resilience, or grass versatility needed to genuinely trouble him over five sets. The worst-case scenario is perhaps dropping a set due to unforced errors or a loose tiebreak. The real test will come in the final, most likely against Sinner or Djokovic. Betting on Alcaraz to reach the final would be a strong pick if that market becomes available.

Andre Snellings:

Alcaraz (+120). Alcaraz has been almost unbeatable on grass over the past three seasons, compiling a 25-1 record with four titles, including the last two Wimbledon championships. He won another grass title earlier this month at the ATP 500 Queen`s Club Championships. Alcaraz also holds an advantage over the players with the second- and third-best odds. Sinner is the top seed, but Alcaraz has had the upper hand recently, winning all five of their encounters since 2023 and eight of their twelve overall matchups. Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the last two Wimbledon finals.

What is your favorite bet for the women`s side?

Pamela Maldonado:

Both Emma Raducanu and Sabalenka to win in straight sets in Round 1 (-105). Raducanu doesn`t need a blowout performance to win in straight sets against Mingge Xu. Xu can compete, but Raducanu`s strong return game and baseline consistency should gradually wear her down. Sabalenka`s first-round opponent, Carson Branstine, lacks the pace to disrupt her rhythm. It`s difficult to see Branstine winning more than a handful of games.

Andre Snellings:

Iga Swiatek to win (+650). While players like Rybakina (+550), Andreeva (+1600), and Jasmine Paolini (+2800) are also on my radar, Swiatek is particularly catching my attention for some reason. After spending the previous few years as the dominant force in women`s tennis, Swiatek has flown somewhat under the radar this season. Although she hasn`t won tournaments at her previous rate, she has been playing very high-level tennis. She reached the semifinals at both previous Grand Slams this year and made the final of last week`s Bad Homburg Open.

What is your favorite bet for the men`s side?

Pamela Maldonado:

Roberto Bautista Agut (-120) to defeat Cameron Norrie in the first round. This pick relies on discipline and grass-court experience. RBA`s flat groundstrokes stay low, suiting the surface well, while Norrie`s looping forehand and passive rally tolerance haven`t appeared sharp in 2025. With RBA showing glimpses of his vintage form during this grass swing, he is the more reliable baseline grinder in a matchup that favors precision over spin.

Andre Snellings:

Djokovic to win (+600). Djokovic has hinted that this might be his final season on tour, which would make this his last Wimbledon appearance. Aside from the Australian Open, where he holds a record 10 of his 24 Grand Slam titles, Wimbledon`s grass courts have been his most successful surface. Djokovic has claimed seven Wimbledon crowns, including four of the last six. His only two losses at the All England Club since 2018 were in the last two finals against Alcaraz. With this draw, Djokovic wouldn`t encounter Alcaraz until the final, and Sinner not until the semifinals. While overcoming both Sinner and Alcaraz in a single major is an immense challenge for anyone, if there`s a player capable of it, it`s Djokovic.

What is your favorite long shot bet to win the women`s title?

Pamela Maldonado:

Jessica Pegula +2000. She is undervalued, benefiting from a favorable early draw with no projected top-10 opponent until the quarterfinals. Her consistency and court intelligence are well-matched against players like Mirra Andreeva and Gauff, who can occasionally falter under pressure. If Pegula reaches the final, she will have significantly outperformed expectations and possesses the skills to trouble a power player like Sabalenka.

Andre Snellings:

Vondrousova +2000. Vondrousova is arguably the most dangerous unseeded player in the tournament. She famously won Wimbledon in 2023 after extended time off due to injuries caused her ranking to drop. She appears capable of a similar run this season. Vondrousova has missed much of the last year with hand and shoulder issues, but she returned for the French Open and earlier this month won her first tournament since 2023 at the Berlin Open. That tournament is also played on grass, and en route to the title, Vondrousova defeated players like 2024 Australian Open champion Madison Keys, two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur, and Aryna Sabalenka, the current world No. 1 and top seed at Wimbledon.

What is your favorite long shot bet to win the men`s title?

Pamela Maldonado:

Djokovic +600. Djokovic represents the most dangerous type of long shot: one with seven Wimbledon titles and a clear point to prove. Sinner may be the top seed, but he`s not guaranteed to reach the final, especially after a heart-wrenching loss to Alcaraz at Roland Garros, a recent coaching change, and an early exit in Halle. If Djokovic gets past Sinner, or if Sinner is upset earlier, Djokovic will likely face Alcaraz in the final. After a five-set battle in 2023 and a loss following surgery in 2024 to Alcaraz at Wimbledon, this feels like Novak`s opportunity for revenge on the surface where he still reigns supreme.

Andre Snellings:

Any American (+1800). Taylor Fritz is the highest-seeded American at No. 5. The top seed in his potential semifinal bracket is No. 3 Alexander Zverev, whom Fritz has defeated previously at Wimbledon and the US Open. Fritz reached the final of last season`s US Open and has already claimed a grass-court title this season, winning the Stuttgart Open last week by defeating, yes, Zverev in the final. His powerful serve and surprisingly good movement for his size make him well-suited for grass.

Keep an eye on 10th-seeded Ben Shelton as well. He possesses a massive serve that has helped him reach the semifinals of two hard-court majors (2023 US Open, 2025 Australian Open). He made the fourth round of Wimbledon last year in only his second appearance at the event. Tommy Paul, the 13th seed, has reached the quarterfinals in three of the last four majors, including last year`s Wimbledon. Frances Tiafoe (12th seed), Brandon Nakashima (29th), and Alex Michelsen (30th) are the other seeded American men. Both Tiafoe and Nakashima have previously reached the fourth round at Wimbledon. Michelsen is only 20 years old and has played Wimbledon just once (losing in the first round), but he has already reached two grass-court tournament finals early in his career.

Any of these players would be considered long shots to win the title, but this bet allows you to back all of them. I also favor the special bet for Any American man to reach the final (+700).
