The Bosnia and Herzegovina national team has secured its place in the World Cup play-off final, defeating Wales on penalties in the semi-final. They are now set to face Italy in the decisive match, which will take place next Tuesday.
The Italian national team, the “Azzurri,” confidently overcame Northern Ireland with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday evening in Bergamo, thanks to goals from Sandro Tonali and Moise Kean. Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina needed a penalty shootout to advance to the final after a tense game against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The match between Wales and Bosnia and Herzegovina was full of drama. Wales took the lead in the 51st minute through a goal from Daniel James. However, former Fiorentina, Inter, and Roma star Edin Dzeko equalized in the 86th minute, sending the game into extra time. After 30 minutes without any further goals, the fate of the encounter was decided by a penalty shootout.
During the shootout, Wales’ goalkeeper Karl Darlow saved Ermedin Demirović’s opening penalty. However, Brennan Johnson shot over the bar, and Neco Williams’ attempt was denied by Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj. Kerim Alajbegović scored the decisive penalty, sending his team to the final against the “Azzurri.”
The World Cup play-off final between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy will be held at the Bilino Polje stadium in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Tuesday, March 31. The kick-off time for the match is yet to be determined, but it is expected to be either 18:00 CET or 20:45 CET.
Sandro Tonali was named Man of the Match for Italy against Northern Ireland, as he not only opened the scoring but also provided the assist for Kean.
