Fiorentina has reportedly reached an agreement to sell half of Lucas Beltran’s contract to River Plate, following his loan spell at Valencia. However, sources indicate that the striker is reluctant to move back to South America and wishes to continue his career in Europe.
Beltran, who began his career in the River Plate academy and made a name for himself there, was transferred to Fiorentina for €19.7 million in the summer of 2023.
Beltran Resists Return to River Plate
Last season, Beltran was informed that he needed to find a new club. Despite opportunities to return to South America, he was determined to pursue his career in Europe.
This led him to accept a loan move to Valencia, where he contributed three goals and two assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this past season.
Multiple Argentine news outlets are now reporting that Fiorentina and River Plate have agreed on terms for Beltran’s transfer. The deal is said to involve Fiorentina selling 50% of his contract for €6 million, while retaining a 50% share of any future sell-on fee.
However, a key obstacle identified by TyC Sports is the 25-year-old’s strong desire to establish himself at a higher level in Europe. He is currently resisting the proposed move back to River Plate.
River Plate is reportedly making efforts to persuade Beltran that a return to the Argentine club would be the best course of action for his career development.
