Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Black Series: Two Sportscars, One Shared Platform
Mercedes-AMG is set to launch two new high-performance models, the next-generation AMG GT3 and the upcoming AMG GT Black Series. Both vehicles are being developed based on the innovative AMG GT Track Sport Concept, unveiled a year ago, which serves as a technological platform for these ultra-high-performance machines. The Black Series will also function as the homologation model for the new GT3 generation.
Michael Schiebe, a member of the Mercedes-Benz Group management board, stated, "We are developing the most extreme Black Series ever built. Simultaneously, with the future GT3, we aim to establish a new benchmark in motorsport. The foundation for all this is the AMG GT Track Sport Concept, a technology laboratory that, from the beginning, was much more than just a concept. It is our clear and unequivocal statement of maximum performance orientation, a promise valid for both the track and the road. At AMG, we develop cars to exceed expectations. And that is exactly what the future Black Series and the new GT3 will do."
The name "Track Sport" was deliberately chosen to bridge the gap between the pure track performance of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the extreme, yet road-legal, capabilities that have always defined Black Series models. Since October 2025, the prototype has undergone intensive dynamic testing on various tracks, including Immendingen, Bilster Berg, Portimão, and Monteblanco. A new development phase has now begun with tests on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.
A distinct color scheme has also been defined: red will represent the Mercedes-AMG GT3 as a central element of the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport livery, while yellow-green will identify the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. Further details on both models are expected to be announced in the future.
Mercedes-AMG GT3
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 represents a natural evolution of Mercedes-AMG’s successful Customer Racing program, which began in 2010. The program saw its first full season of racing in 2011 with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, continuing seamlessly with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from 2016, and its Evo version since 2020.
The decision to develop a new generation of the GT3 led to the creation of Affalterbach Racing GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercedes-AMG. This company, together with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, is responsible for the development and production of the new model. The new GT3 is currently under development, with the goal of continuing the Customer Racing program's winning tradition while introducing new standards in performance, safety, and competitiveness.
Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, commented, "With the presentation of the concept car, we can now officially announce the new Mercedes-AMG GT3, with which we intend to continue the success story of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing. Our goal is, once again, to bring a vehicle to the track that can set new benchmarks. We have already gathered important insights from initial tests. We are now entering the next development phase, which will also include testing on circuits relevant to GT Sport."
Mercedes-AMG Black Series
Unrestricted power, endurance, and performance: these define the pinnacle of the Mercedes-AMG range. Since 2006, special models have carried the "Black Series" designation. AMG’s roots are deeply embedded in motorsport, stemming from the visionary idea of its founders, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, in 1967: to develop Mercedes-based cars capable of meeting the performance demands of professional motorsport and transfer this racing DNA to the road.
A key model in this journey was the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG, with its powerful 5.5-liter V8 engine producing 360 hp. While the standard range was designed for road use, racing versions of the SLK 55 developed for an Asian racing series provided the decisive impetus for the birth of the Black Series line. This project, internally known as "Track Sport," represented an attempt to directly transfer the uncompromising approach of the racetrack to a road-legal vehicle. This path led to the 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Black Series. The AMG GT Track Sport Concept now represents a further milestone in this journey, culminating in the development of the new AMG GT3 and the future AMG GT Black Series.
