Inter’s Double Joy: Lautaro Martinez Reflects on Serie A & Coppa Italia Triumph, Dumfries Jests

Lautaro Martinez emphasized the difficulty of Inter Milan’s Serie A and Coppa Italia Double victory, especially after the previous season. Denzel Dumfries humorously commented that their captain was “angry with me.”

The Coppa Italia Final was decided in the first half at the Stadio Olimpico. An own goal from Lazio defender Adam Marusic off a Federico Dimarco corner, followed by Denzel Dumfries dispossessing Nuno Tavares to set up Lautaro Martinez for a simple tap-in, sealed the win.

This marks Inter’s 10th Coppa Italia title and their first Double, combining Serie A and the Coppa Italia, since Jose Mourinho’s historic Treble in 2010, which also included the Champions League.

Lautaro Martinez and Dumfries Celebrate Inter’s Success

“It means a lot, because it wasn’t easy after what happened last season to get back on track, but we’ve had a truly remarkable season,” Lautaro Martinez told Sport Mediaset. “We’ve shown good results, performances, and intensity, so I’m proud that we’re finishing with another trophy that means so much.”

“There’s always a lot of talk about Inter, but you have to look at what we’ve achieved over many years. We must continue on our path; this is another trophy.”

This triumph is a significant achievement for a team that ended the previous season without any silverware and disheartened, following Simone Inzaghi’s departure after the Champions League Final defeat.

Regarding coach Cristian Chivu, Martinez added, “We’d give Chivu a 10 out of 10 because he helped us so much.”

Denzel Dumfries, who missed a significant portion of the season due to serious ankle surgery, made a return and provided the assist for Martinez’s decisive goal. “I’m happy; it was a difficult period, and I’m glad I managed to get back and help my teammates. I’m glad I assisted Lauti, who was angry with me for not giving him more assists this season,” Dumfries joked to Sport Mediaset.

The Dutch international was named MVP of the Coppa Italia Final by the Lega Serie A.
